Each year, Out at Tesco asks our members to vote for their favourite LGBT+ Charity for us to promote and fundraise for across the country throughout the Pride Season. Last year, we were delighted to raise thousands to support the fantastic work that the Swtichboard LGBT+ Helpline do.
This year, we’ve had over 500 votes for our charity of the year and are delighted to announce that Diversity Role Models will be our 2017 LGBT+ Charity of the Year. Diversity Role Models works to tackle homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in schools. In the UK, LGBT+ Young People and six times more likely to commit suicide and around two thirds them have experienced bullying whilst at school.
Diversity Role Models visits schools across the UK to educate young people about difference, challenging stereotypes and addressing the misuse of langauge. It’s a fantastic charity and we’re proud to be supporting them this year.
We’ll be fundraising for Diversity Role Models throughout our Pride Campaign and we’ll be donating £1 per Pride T-Shirt sold on Tesco.com between 19th June and 1st September. Our 500 London stores will also be fundraising on the weekend of the 1st July and we’ll have the Gay Mens Chorus at Covent Garden and Regent Street Metro to help bring the fundraising weekend to life.
